They are currently laying the foundation for the future where they can shift the balance from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Take a look at the amount of renewable energy they’re producing. Not only is that growing fast, it’s already a large quantity.

Some industries, like steel, will take longer to switch, so getting rid of fossil fuels entirely will probably take a very long time. Total energy consumption is also likely to increase in the future, so the existing emitters will likely continue to be in operation for decades. However, as the energy demand increases, more and more of that energy will be produced by renewable means. This means that, due to renewable energy production, the total emissions won’t grow as fast as they otherwise would.

Who knows.

My guess is that eventually they’ll cross some invisible line and their former allies begin to turn against them. Where that line is can also change depending on the global political atmosphere. As long as Russia and USA interfere with the Middle East, we’re locked in a proxy war style situation with no clear way out. If Russia and USA suddenly loose interest in this eternal war zone, then Israel would need to watch out, because crossing that invisible line would have consequences, and the line would be a lot closer than ever before.

For the time being though, I don’t think Israel needs to worry about that. They could start using Zyklon B on Palestinian children, and the world would not interfere.

You’re absolutely right. Economic motivations decide the trajectory a company may take. Ethics, green washing, queer rights and other factors take a back seat. If they come with financial benefits, the company will follow that path, but that’s always because of money—no matter what the marketing material actually says.

Remember when companies were supporting sexual and gender minorities? That was because financial incentives aligned with that at the time. Remember when those turncoats suddenly scrapped the DEI programs and removed all rainbow themes? Same motivation again. Facade changed, but the foundation is still the same.

Exactly! If your app can be wiped off the face of the Internet on a moment’s notice, you’re clearly putting way too many eggs in one basket. Even a mobile friendly website would be good, but a proper web app would be so much nicer.

About that “net slowdown”. I think it’s true, but only in specific cases. If the user already knows well how to write code, an LLM might be only marginally useful or even useless.

However, there are ways to make it useful, but it requires specific circumstances. For example, you can’t be bothered to write a simple loop, you can use and LLM to do it. Give the boring routine to an LLM, and you can focus on naming the variables in a fitting way or adjusting the finer details to your liking.

Can’t be bothered to look up the exact syntax for a function you use only twice a year? Let and LLM handle that, and tweak the details. Now, you didn’t spend 15 minutes reading stack overflow posts that don’t answer the exact question you had in mind. Instead, you spent 5 minutes on the whole thing, and that includes the tweaking and troubleshooting parts.

If you have zero programming experience, you can use an LLM to write some code for you, but prepare to spend the whole day troubleshooting something that is essentially a black box to you. Alternatively, you could ask a human to write the same thing in 5-15 minutes depending on the method they choose.

Yeah, I can imagine that all sorts of dark web stuff would naturally gravitates towards I2P. Sounds like the obvious choice. However, the recent age verification BS can speed up the process of normie sites too. If Lemmy admins are required to conform to age verification laws, it only makes sense to host the instance on I2P instead.

Oh, the sports games. Those are a special breed! I think it was NHL 95 or something when I realized that they are pumping these games every year and hardly anything changes in between. Always made me wonder who pays for this trash. Just walk to the nearest game store, buy a used 4 year old NHL of FIFA game, and you’re all set for a long time.

My thoughts exactly. Since the 2010s EA has been going down the dark path of lootboxes and micro transactions, so there’s literally nothing left to save any more. I’m sure they’re going to find new and profitable ways to enshittify the company even further, but it’s been just total shit for such a long time already that nothing will change the general stench.
