Reddit not being transparent and not having independent safeguards against numbers’ manipulation, I wouldn’t trust their statistics.

If you mean “how do I monetize to keep services afloat”, open donation channels, like Patreon, Ko-fi, direct donations like the American Zelle or the Brazilian Pix, referral links explicitly identified as such, etc., and be transparent about finances and that if someone likes the service, their support helps maintaining it.

Portuguese I think the biggest one is https://lemmy.eco.br/, and it’s a generalist instance too.

Also, as others said, @Untamed_Star@lemmy.blahaj.zone, if the game is on a DRM-free-oriented platform, like GOG, Itchio, etc., you could look for those.

Additionally, looking for sources of a given game can help find where it’s less of a hassle to get it, specially through databases or adjacent, like PCGamingWiki, ITAD, NeoDB (fediverse-compatible!), GameFAQS, etc. Also apparently it isn’t uncommon for databases to cross-reference each other, so one can lead to another.

If the game is only on Steam, install Linux on a VM, install Wine in it, run SteamCMD through Wine, download the build you want, and move to your host OS.

SteamCMD is a minimalist/terminal-based version of Steam. The Windows version can be downloaded separately. However, it downloads needed libraries and I’m not sure how good Steam is at escaping Wine’s environment, so a VM adds an extra security layer. Also the command changes depending of whether it’s 32-bit or 64-bit, if it’s for Linux, MacOS or Windows, or even if it’s a previous, still public update, and it’s been some years since I used those and I don’t have the commands noted down, so can’t help with that at least right now.

If something’s allowed to be pirated, it can’t be pirated.

CDN might be reachable publicly if you have the links, like for Sony’s PSN downloads. And I didn’t test the save dumping part yet because I forgor, but tests should be quick, I’d imagine.

If you’re on topic and don’t break the groups’ rules, I don’t think you’d need privileged contact to the moderatos. Maybe make a post every week for things like community spotlights, community revivals, engaging topics, etc.?

Also, the more people interact, the more contents propagate, kinda like an algorithm but more analogical. So engaging more should boost organic growth.

And there being people from different places in here, betting on one type of content is imo risky. Better I think would be to just post what you’d like to see, and other like-minded folk may notice.

Something that hadn’t crossed my mind but that was noted to me when I gave a similar idea is that doing so against direct competitors could be seen as sabotage, and moderator action would very likely come. Not in those words but in this idea though.

Better I think is to prioritize the fediverse in a passive or at least non-antagonistic manner.

While #RSS and similar technologies are pretty standardized, their links aren’t, so if the Australian site has RSS too, maybe the link follows a pretty different pattern than that of the UK one.

About the news, going by this wiki:

News entries are fetched from CDN. Metadata for each entry is stored and queried from an internal SQLite database. Official software uses sqlite for processing.

Also asked some AI how to dump news on the original #Switch, and it said JKSV, a NRO homebrew for managing saves, may be the best call. According to the same reply, supposedly the news are stored on the save with ID 0x8000000000000090. But since even the most functional AIs still hallucinate some times, please someone correct me if I’m wrong, and also using hashtags for better reach (another one, also automatically attached to the OP but not replies: #datahoarder).

For the Instagram people, if they’re also using Threads, poke them to enable ActivityPub. Several medium/large instances defederate, but it’s an entry point for them.

Also, don’t be forceful and try not to pass a sense of superiority. Apply pressure when you see opportunities, such as if they complain of a platform, how a given alternative solves that, but know your boundaries. And all the while, be patient, for it could be a years-worth endeavor.

Not familiar with moderation capabilities on PieFed, but something that can aid when moderating is having RSS tracking your communities. Even if the post gets deleted, if the RSS reader fetched the post in the time frame before that, it gets stored in your reader’s (preferably persistent) cache.

Besides, and related to “not being a platform”, it helps break the idea of everyone having to share the same space with everyone. If two groups can’t have a healthy relationship, it is healthier for them to cut ties with each other. Meanwhile, the oligarchic platforms being as big and with barely any internal borders makes for the toxic environment of places like Reddit and Twitter that predates recent polemics.

Something though, I think it’d be better to have a cut-off of MAU or some other relevance metric, as otherwise smaller instances defederating from major ones may sneakily make the major one seem more isolated than it really is.
