The issue is not willingness to tinker or such. It is time. People just don’t realize how much time this kind of tinkering eats. Which is not fun but extremely frustrating when all you want to do is to use your wee bit of free time for something relaxing and fun.

So no, I am not prepared to sacrifice my rare moments of mental recuperation on trying to figure out why something that should just work doesn’t work. Or doesn’t work in the needed way.

Until Linux isn’t utterly install and it works right away intuitively it will NEVER reach the masses.

The fediverse is very linux oriented I see again and again.

Sadly most Linux users are so deep into it that they don’t understand the pain of transition from something known to something that you have to invest significant time into to get running as you want it to.

And whenever people say this, several people post Linux versions that are supposedly super easy to set up and very similar to windows… Which shows that they are no longer able to see the relevant differences.

I find it annoying. Essentially as someone who has tried to switch to linux on my own terms(!) and that’s not possible without investing more time than a family dad with job is prepared to invest.

Relative to the vastness of the oceans a data center is so negligible that I feel you don’t understand the size of the ocean at all.

They would have to build a million data centers, yes, a million (or perhaps even millions, plural) , to have any heat impact which is economically and resource related impossible. For reference, all data centers worldwide on land now count 11k.

There have been and are hundreds of thousands of natural underwater volcanoes that create heat far surpassing data centers…

Based on that I would like to know why you think data center heat would have an effect noticeable past those volcanoes.

You do know that meta doesn’t only have high level jobs, right? There cannot just be middle managers everywhere without the bog standard workers.

What kind of perception do you have of tech giants? That all who work there are some kind of imaginary elite?

You do realize that the problem is that people need money? Yea, many would likely have a choice where to work but many might Not have had options.

What is needed is financial basic freedom for everyone. Countries need to sit down and figure out how to make it work because as it stands, jobs have turned into a form of slavery by design.

At this point I wish for every mega Corp to die before they turn even more into tge cyberpunk dystopia visions of 80s movies.
