As I mentioned in my response to someone else, it was a demolition company. No one was offended by it until one of the office folk spotted it on a site visit.
The work culture could be considered toxic, I suppose, but if one of the workers was legitimately having a hard time everyone else was supportive. This actually landed really well as an inside joke.

It was a demolition company, no one batted an eye until one of the office folk did a site visit.
2 people got fired from one of my previous jobs for handing this out.

Because Article 5 requires unanimous agreement from all members to be invoked, a conflict between two members would lead to an impasse, as the alliance cannot vote to go to war against itself.
The only time Article 5 has been invoked was following the September 11, 2001, attacks in the US.
So, obviously members are probably scrambling to work something out, but it might be the end of NATO and the start of something else. NATO without the Yanks, but with blackjack and hookers

Canada@lemmy.ca•Pluralistic: Sorry, eh (13 Jan 2026) – Pluralistic: Daily links from Cory Doctorow
6·9 days agoI’m sorry. I know that when we talk about “digital sovereignty,” we’re obliged to talk about how we can build more data-centres that we can fill up with money-losing chips from American silicon monopolists in the hopes of destroying as many jobs as possible while blowing through our clean energy goals and enshittifying as much of our potable water as possible.
The paragraph before the “I don’t have any advice” line gives a lot of very necessary context.
Excellent write up, had no idea Corey Doctorow was Canadian. Including the first paragraph might have been a good idea too.
Like all the best Americans, I’m Canadian, and while I have lived abroad for most of this century, I still hew faithfully to our folkways, which is why I’d like to start this essay by apologizing.
100% worth a read
Article 5, but what does NATO do when the call is coming from inside the house?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Why aren’t there more Indigenous foods in 'Canadian' grocery stores?
2·10 days agoIt’s also a FN twist on a SCOTTISH food. It’s a FN food only due to genocide and colonialism.
I wish Canada had a politically-independent research arm that could look into any possible subject, free of interference and with the authority of a national police force, only staffed with highly-accredited experts from every field. They would have a mandate to follow political and economic corruption and harms to the environment and peoples of Canada without censure or blowback, with the only requirement being full transparency and accountability. And with payroll bonuses being drawn from fines and other financial judgements such that they are as incentivized as possible to go after the biggest fish, first.
Now…I know this is a serious issue, and you’re being really serious about this. And I agree with you whole heartedly, that would make life for Canadians better as a whole…
… fucking hell though…what you just described? I would watch the FUCK out of the show you just described!

Canada@lemmy.ca•8 arrests, 29 charges laid at downtown demonstrations: Toronto police
3·11 days agoI guarantee you this guy IS a neo-nazi. He’s doing a smart play, actually like it’s not about racism, get folk thinking:
Well, shit, I think something should be done about the homeless situation, and if the immigrants are being given the money that could help the homeless then fuck those guys.
Few months down the line they’re getting swastikas and other stolen symbols now used for hate on the nipples or some shit…

Canada@lemmy.ca•8 arrests, 29 charges laid at downtown demonstrations: Toronto police
5·11 days agoFrom this article, also about the protests.
Canada First Movement founder and president Joe Anidjar said he started the initiative in 2024 to send a message across the country.
“Before, we had a great immigration system where people came here, they knew they had to work hard,” he told CBC Toronto Saturday. “Now we’re paying for people’s livelihoods. And that’s just not the way. That’s not where I want my tax dollars going.”
Anidjar added he wants to see more money go towards homelessness and mental illness support within the city, rather than towards wars overseas.
Coun. Neethan Shan (Scarborough-Rouge Park) told CBC Toronto he wants the affected communities to know Toronto stands in solidarity with them.
“This xenophobia, these anti-refugee, anti-immigrant sentiments that are being spread deliberately to cause fear, deliberately to create a foundation for further racism and hate needs to be stopped,” he said.
Anidjar said that’s not what’s happening.
“If you take a look around, it’s very multicultural. It’s people from all different backgrounds and races,” he said. “At the end of the day, we want to preserve our culture, our identity and our way of life.”
FFS…our culture is more mixing pot than most countries with high immigration, and has been for ages. If you look up this chucklefuck’s name one of the top results is his FB page, and he’s wearing a Make Canada Great Again hat. So as it seems from the above, he’s a racist Maple MAGA POS.
If you take a look around, it’s very multicultural. It’s people from all different backgrounds and races,
And look at ICE, there’s a shit tonne of Hispanic and African-American people who don’t understand that they’re next for the meat grinder…

This is getting too analytical for what was intended as a joke
Ooft… yeah, fair enough. I don’t get the joke, but I got the sentiment.

As I mentioned in different responses, this was at a demolition company. The joke landed really well with all the workers, but an office person came for a site visit and kicked up fuck when they saw it.
