The last time I turned off XP was a few months ago when I replaced it with Linux Mint on a PC I use to play old games in my room (because I wanted to play old MMOs and that required internet access, which XP would not have been safe for.)

I can relate in several ways. One day I woke up to my step mom screaming and my dad screaming at her and the sound of things being thrown around. He was super drunk, and when he came out of his room, I pulled a knife on him, but he was too out of it to notice. That or he had and just never told me. Before I got it in me to move, he started crying, hugged me, and kept repeating “I’ll get better” over and over again. After that day he started going to regular therapy. Religious therapy, not real therapy, but it never happened again, so I guess it worked either way. Nonetheless I can’t bring myself to ever step foot in his house again. I’ve talked to him over messaging before during some emergency situations where I had nobody else I could call. He seems like he’s really improved. But tbh, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fully trust that he’s genuinely changed. Because of him my stomach still drops whenever I hear sudden loud noises, even if it’s just somebody dropping a screwdriver or something.
I’m in neither camp personally. I overheard my dad joke to my mom about how the best time to stop beating your kids is when they’re old enough to fight back, and so I learned to fight against it, physically. Of course he didn’t stop at first, I was small and weak, until one day soon after I cut his eye with my fingernail. That’s when he finally decided to tone it down.
And yet when that happened, I wasn’t happy. I thought I was a monster for putting him in the hospital.

2·6 months agoI’ve been on ADHD meds twice before now and I can confirm that the euphoria, “everything is amazing” feeling wears off after the first week or so, but the ability to relax and focus never go away, and that’s what I was referring to.

243·2 years agoThere are quite a lot of days cows milk is literally the only source of calories that doesn’t make me vomit from the intensely unpleasant sensory experience all other food gives me. So no, I’m not going to stop drinking it.
I was ready to respond that I’m autistic and don’t have this issue at all, but you made me realize none of my shirts even have tags and I’m just a dumbass.

521·2 years agoAs somebody on disability for psychological disability reasons, you’re usually allowed to have somebody else fill those out for you. That’s what I had to do.
Luckily the ones they send you afterwards every few years to check if you’re still disabled are much shorter, and if you’ve got a detailed medical record of your disability sometimes they can’t shut it off no matter how you answer the questions, such as in my case. Even if I wrote “I’m cured. You can turn off my disability now,” they can’t do that because they have guidelines that make you auto-qualify, and if your medical records still show that you meet those guidelines they can’t legally shut it off.

1·2 years agoI’d thought I could hear a difference in hires audio, but after reading up on it I’m starting to think it may have been some issue with the tech I was using, whether it be my headphones or something else, that made compressed audio sound veeeery slightly staticky when high notes or loud parts of the track played.
Personally though, even if it wasn’t, the price for the equipment wasn’t worth it for a difference that was only perceptible if I was listening for it. Not to mention it’s near impossible to find hires tracks from most bands. Most claiming to be hires are just converted low res tracks and thus have no actual difference in sound quality, the only difference being the file is way larger for no good reason.

I do this too but I only send them to justify having taken them lol.
