They all have environmental impacts but every serious modern study I’ve seen concludes EVs are better, often substantially better.

It depends on the electricity fuel blend. So in the past if you had a lot of coal it could take a long time to “pay back” the carbon cost of a new EV. But as more and more renewables are coming online that payback period is getting shorter and shorter. In most places if they’ve put at least some effort into bringing down carbon emissions, EVs are a substantial improvement.
Of course, walking, biking, transit are all far superior. But if those aren’t viable for some trips then EV is the next best option.

Unfortunately I think it must be assumed in this day and age that any content posted online publicly may be stored indefinitely, on any platform. Even if you delete it, there are bots scraping all your comments, and you won’t be able to delete from those databases. So I’m not sure how much utility this feature would have today.

Yeah I think it’s way beyond what I would know how to do… I’ve also got some pretty crazy things happening in my life right now so I’m not looking to take on any big projects at this time. Maybe when things are back to normal.
Or I’ll ask around and see if anyone else is interested in doing it.

Wow great comment. But I’d have to figure out who is going to host a local server first. I’m not super tech savvy personally, especially compared to Lemmings.

Oh wow this would be huge. The local sub is the main thing that keeps me coming back to Reddit.
However, it probably will take some local organizing to get it to fire in each area. Getting a critical mass for these is tough by just having randomly distributed global internet users join. Even with thousands of users, the California community on Lemmy is way less active than the sub for my city on Reddit.

Well, I had this issue from drinking too much orange juice. I did drink it often but not an extreme amount I’d say. But even lower levels of acidity can cause your teeth to weaken over time.

The quality of the food only matters because our bodies can’t handle it. If we could improve our teeth (and other body parts) to be more resilient and adapted to available food resources then it wouldn’t be considered poor quality anymore.

Acidic food can dissolve your teeth. I’m aware of the involvement of bacteria but I didn’t want to go into too much detail for this one-liner. The point is our teeth are very poorly designed to stay intact in the face of the dietary environment they are used for.

When do we get teeth that aren’t made of a substance that our food literally dissolves? Seems like a major design flaw.

If only they’d succeeded in ousting him. If so many suckers hadn’t defended him back then maybe it could have worked.

I think there’s also a high likelihood the Supreme Court tells them they can’t do this. Even though it’s totally legal as of existing precedent.

From what I’ve heard this would also apply to Linux.

Wait, what?! Have there been rulings on this since then? This seems huge.
Although, from the article it doesn’t sound like it would have relevance to federal immunity.

Here in Sacramento our power is provided by an independent public body run by a democratically elected board. Generally it’s very well-run and people here have virtually no complaints. We get energy with less fossil fuels for about half the price of PG&E. I have no idea why every community does not adopt this model.

Should be fairly easy to defeat, no?

I don’t think even that would work. He could certainly hamper the war effort but the US isn’t the only ally Ukraine has. I don’t think they would capitulate unless there was major movement on the front line and a total defeat seemed possible.

Why would they fold though? This idea that Ukraine was merely a puppet that would concede to literally any demands from the US was always ridiculous.

I have absolutely zero faith that the US government will side with people’s safety over a new toy for the oligarchs. And these companies are openly saying their whole business model is urban transportation. So they will be lobbying to change those laws as soon as they can, and, as we’ve seen with self-driving cars, it will be difficult to stop them.
Regime change is pointless when all of the powers poised to take over are no better. They deserve regime abolition but I don’t see how they get there from here.
