There is lots of other football/soccer around. Watch and support it and don’t support FIFA. Why should they change when fans keep rewarding them for what they are doing? Watching, even for free, is supporting them.

I don’t think Carney was playing nice. He’s pragmatic. It is going to take a long time for Canada to shift off exporting to the US. May as well sell what we can until we have other markets. He’s just using Trump’s language to flatter him because, why not, it’s free, and often works. I don’t think Carney, or 90% of Canadians, believe our long term solution is to go back to the way things were with the US. That relationship is dead and gone.

Trump and many others break the current laws with impunity. Which shows all we need to do, and what will be expected, is to pay off the surveilance. Tech Bros are the new mafia.

I’ve had an ev for 8 years. I slow charge overnight for 95% of my milage. Same for everyone I know that lives in a house or townhouse. Apartment living varies depending on how old the apartment is and they may need to use other paid charging. Putting more all day or all night slower charging would help with load. Most people only have to use high speed charging when they don’t have accessible charging either at home or at work.

And don’t drive any vehicle made in the US in the last 15years?

Quelle surprise. Our media is mostly owned by American billionaire interests.

I used to feel this was a tragedy. Now I feel that those parents aren’t intelligent enough to have children. They deserve what they got. The child died but it was probably going to of something else stupid at some point anyway. A century ago, before we had all the modern medical procedures, a large percentage of children didn’t make it to adulthood. That is going to be the new norm for the parents who know better than “the elites”.

Unfortunately it seems that 8 in 10 Americans also think the Democrats are “just as bad”.

If there is any rationale other than the “we are the USA, we can do whatever we want, whenever we want, for no reason at all”, I would be surprised.

Most of the past history of raising minimum wage/payroll taxes/employee benefits has been immediate outcry by business groups over how all business is going to go bankrupt/the sky is falling followed by change that a year later has business chugging along mostly the same as it was prior to their catastrophizing. It’s not really surprising that employees who are able to spend more, spend more.

That’s where the cap needs to be. There will always be someone capable and willing to take the job without the enormous pay packet. Executive pay is the biggest scam ever created.

Alberta screwed themselves when they rejected national energy program that would have cost them some provincial control in exchange for building Canadian energy self sufficiency. They would have pipelines crisscrossing Canada and refineries to boot to get ‘their’ oil to. However they were hoodwinked by US corporate interest into rejecting the NEP and they have been taken advantage of by those same corporate interests ever since. Along with that the Alberta government has spend every waking moment blaming Ottawa. No AB sales tax to even out cyclical O&G revenues? Ottawa’s fault, somehow. Not enough environmental deposits to clean up after the O&G company has taken all the profits it wants and offshored them? Ottawa’s fault. No refineries? US extraction companies want to refine in US and close Canadian sites, Ottawa’s fault. Petro Canada. Short sightedly sold by Conservatives. Was Ottawa’s fault but at the behest of Alberta.

You would think that after the fiasco of Brexit Albertans would know better.
Albertans would still be subject to their own governments damaging economic policies even if they could divorce from the federal ones. Most of their economic problems are self inflicted. That will only get worse. It is clear that their Premier and cabinet and advisors are already on the payroll of American billionaires. How any Albertan thinks that will make life or income better for them is astonishing. They harken back to some good ol days that never existed, while falling for Koch brothers (or whomever) marketing their takeover. They wouldn’t become the next Alaska, they would become the next Puerto Rico, if that lucky.
And like Quebec before them, they don’t understand that the current provincial borders won’t be the ones that would exist if they managed to secede.
Personally I’d be willing to work on a trade group: all the Albertans (and the few from BC, Sask, & Man) who want to secede could be swapped for an equal number of Americans who wanted to come North.

It doesn’t even need to be imported. We have tfw’s with sketchy work conditions here in Canada. If you eat meat or vegetables or wear clothing produced in North America there is a chance it has some part done by not strictly legal labour. Most Canadians are happy not to think about why Walmart is able to ‘roll the price back’ or $stores can sell that stuff even cheaper.

So instead if a public system that can work for a majority of students we have no system? Vouchers so students who don’t have issues will have private schools but that still won’t work for those who cannot navigate the current system?
I know teachers who have quit because of problem students. It isn’t fair for them to have to work with a student who bites or punches them when they try to protect the rest of the students.
I feel bad for parents who have a child, or more, who don’t fit in the mainstream education system, however trying to force them to fit isn’t helping anyone. The child isn’t learning and other children are having their education disrupted.
We need real answers to the problem and integration doesn’t seem to be a workable solution.

With so many children now requiring 1:1 teaching, how can our public schools system survive? Public schooling requires multiple, 15-20+, students to teacher to work financially. The general public cannot afford to spend an entire teachers salary for one child’s education. Teachers assistant’s are grossly underpaid to try to make that a workable solution. Not sure what the answer is but it isn’t dependency on the regular public school system to educate children who weren’t a consideration when the system was designed.

Oh they realized. But it was their job. To question it might put them out of work. Can’t take the risk. Can’t do anything about it now - try to blame Theil or Trump - even though they are the ones that built it and looked the other way the entire time. It isn’t descending into fascist. It was being built to enable and protect fascism when it came back out in the mainstream.

Probably not care. I’ve already given up on watching movies since American dross is usually what is on offer. TV is from Europe and so far isn’t AI. I’ve been to more live theatre and cultural events in the last year than I was in the previous 10. Unless they start having very realistic robots do the performances and I can’t tell from real actors, that is probably where most of my support of artists will go instead of corporate crap.
First I’ve noticed that this is a neurodivergent trait. Seems to be a human trait to me.
It isn’t that the US has changed. It is the same as it has always been. It didn’t come to Europe’s “aid” until it had to defend itself against the Axis. It has been a American propogated myth that the US aids any other country. The US creates situations to take advantage of other countries and make it seem a benevolent action. The only change is that Trump is too stupid to get the messaging right and says the quiet parts out loud while scamming the American people for his own gain thereby removing America’s political mask and showing America’s real face to the world.
