Murdering a murderer for committing murder will never make sense to me.

Just because he invented the WWW doesn’t mean he’s always right. In fact, he’s already wrong about this. The internet as a whole has gotten noticeably worse over the last few years.

Just a reminder that JD has three kids (actual kids, not 35 year olds) with his wife, who is a woman of color. If he won’t defend them against blatant racism, do his supporters actually think he gives a fuck about them?
Also, a good parent would take the opportunity to teach their children why what they said is wrong, not just tell them how to avoid responsibility:
Vance said he would tell his three kids—“especially my boys”—“don’t put things on the internet. Be careful with what you post. If you put something in a group chat, assume that some scumbag is going to leak it in an effort to try to cause you harm or cause your family harm.”
Our Vice President is a huge piece of shit.

Leaving aside the billionaire-bashing, which I wholeheartedly agree with, it is nice to see that such a huge and influential fandom seems to genuinely care about “AI” slop.

You are 100% right that the correct term is actually Pack of Nazis.

Yeah exactly, which is why it showing up in these out of office replies is that much worse. The Hatch Act is meaningless.

This definitely isn’t the part of the story that matters, but I hate that they use the term “Democrat Senators.” They’re Democratic senators FFS. Do we call Republican senators Republic Senators? No, no we don’t.

I bet these specific kidnapped children would take issue with your characterization. This is brand new. It just happened. The narrative may be similar to past events, and it’s definitely some believably awful American bullshit, but let’s show some empathy for the specific victims of state violence, while also criticizing the state for committing said violence. Dismissing the news as just more of the same only normalizes this kind of violence, even if that’s not your intention.

Unfortunately there’s a reason for that, many of the same architects who designed prisons also designed schools.
I understand the impulse to get “automatic” toys, but that kind of defeats the purpose imo. Most cats want to play with you and the toy, and when you stop they’ll quickly lose interest in my experience.
I get felt mice for my cat. 100% felt, no catnip or other crap in there. Each one lasts at least a year, though they do start getting a bit frayed, but they hold up really well. The best thing about them is how he can grip them. He can snag them in his claws or hold them like a ball, and bite and tear at them and they still hold up.
Sometimes I catch him cuddling with one, but he is always down to play with them. Simple is best.

I don’t doubt that this kind of thing has always been happening just out of sight of the majority of affluent and/or white Americans. America has never been the “good” country some people like to think it is. But the frequency and visibility with which it’s been happening lately, as well as how widespread the acceptance of the behavior seems to be on the right, is not the status quo.

That’s straight up child exploitation, by the government. Blackmailing a parent with the safety of their child is one of the most villainously evil tropes around. This shit happens in movies all the time, and it’s almost always used as a big flashing “this person is bad and evil, and the villain of the movie” trope.
There has been some incredibly fucked up and immoral treatment of human beings in this country, but this is next level evil.
Problem is, it’s so evil that the brainwashed 40% of the population won’t believe it, so they’ll just go on about their business.

So……perjury really isn’t a thing is it? RFK flat out lied about why he fired her. He told a blatant and unequivocal lie to Congress while under oath.
I know “the truth” can always be a bit wishy washy for people testifying, and skirting around it really just takes rhetorical skill, so charges are rarely brought. But hell, it’s also rarely such a clear facial lie.

That was an awesome piece. We need more people willing to speak out about all the obvious bullshit like this, but more importantly we need this kind of critical thinking to reach the people who are uncritically driving the continued use of these crappy-ass tools that are burning the planet. I’m thinking about CEOs (who will only do anything if it helps their bottom line), but also about your boomer co-workers who think ChatGPT is the fucking messiah and remind you about it every chance they get.

What the fuck? This is horrific.
So let me get this straight: the US military was accidentally caught in foreign territory by random civilians who were diving for food, and the American soldiers just immediately killed them all? And this is normal?!
A classified Pentagon review later concluded the killings were justified under the rules of engagement, the report said.
What?? What rules of engagement say “if we’re caught with our pants down, just kill everyone who saw us and we’re good?”
We really are the bad guys. This isn’t just bad, it’s evil villain level bad. I’m genuinely disgusted.

I may be a bit oversensitive about this kind of thing, but I really dislike the dichotomy they set up: congressman introduces bill to exploit natural resources, critics “say” it “might” cause harm. When really, it’s huge numbers of local communities and climate experts who are explaining why it will cause harm.
I see this everywhere, the actual experts who understand and can explain why something will happen, are relegated to “saying” something “might” happen.

They really went hard on the normalization with this one. I gave up on NYT a long time ago, but I still manage to be appalled by their decision-making. I guess I still hold out hope that they’ll see the light and understand the harm they consistently cause, but they’ve had, what, more than a century to figure it out?

Super curious if he actually laid a hand on the cops. “Allegedly assaulting officers” is like the first thing they go for against black men. The article says he punched a cop in the face twice, but that could very believably be a lie so they have something to charge him with, that’s what the cops do.
Regardless, this seems way blown out of proportion. I don’t really care if a cop gets punched in the face. Their job inherently carries physical risk. Unless there was permanent damage, this is overkill. I’m honestly amazed they didn’t shoot him, he’s lucky, and that’s fucked up.
People, especially young people who are still learning what it means to be a person living in a society, deserve a second chance, and sometimes a third. This whole thing is disgusting, and as the grandchild of holocaust survivors I really struggle to not let these displays of bigotry completely ruin me, but your idea is also pretty upsetting.
People can and do change their beliefs, especially at the age these offenders are. I thought some pretty nasty things in high school that make me look back in shame. But I’m not that person anymore. I grew up, like most humans do. These students deserve to be punished, but that punishment needs to be serious education about why what they did was so awful. Putting them on a blacklist doesn’t help anyone, but it would help their hatred fester.
