You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: enable smooth display in Android
281·2 months agoThe first thing I always do is turn 120Hz off. The difference just isn’t meaningful enough to justify the extra battery drain. On a PC monitor sure, but on a phone I really don’t care if my feed scrolls a bit smoother.
Don’t leave out tachycardia, the sole reason I can’t take any stimulants.😞
I miss the focus and mental calm lisdexamfetamine gave me. Not having a storm of thoughts in my head was such a nice state to be in.
Ah, good old Santa Claus. Also known as Kabouter Buttplug (Buttplug Gnome) for mysterious reasons.
Usually both at the same time for me.
I don’t see the humble brag. If that’s what ADHD has been for you, why shouldn’t you be allowed to share it? But I’ve been in the exact same situation, so I might be biased. 😋

News@lemmy.world•‘LiDAR is lame’: why Elon Musk’s vision for a self-driving Tesla taxi faltered
27·5 months agoMusk maintains that camera-only technology is the most “human” way to approach self-driving, since people use their eyes to navigate the road.
A few years ago I was driving on the motorway, came up on a bend in the road and was greeted by a dense freak fog bank out of nowhere. I immediately let go of the accelerator to reduce speed, at the same time my dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and a collision alert started blaring. That gave me enough time to apply the brakes and prevent a collision with the first and only traffic jam I’ve ever seen there.
I see no reason to not augment our own capabilities with radar and lidar, to see what we as humans can’t.
Well, there goes my appetite, this Dutch guy hates herring. Can’t stand the smell, taste or texture. 🤢

Technology@lemmy.world•Operation Narnia: Iran’s nuclear scientists reportedly killed simultaneously using special weaponEnglish
4·5 months agoAnd don’t forget the US will again get to decide to arbitrarily discard any nuclear agreements, which is of course another great incentive for Iran to not start a military nuclear program.
Lekker. Kan ik je er ook een Haags Hopje bij aanbieden?

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•The 1,000,000,000th repository in GitHub has been created! And it's something alright.
22·5 months agoImagine you’re a GitHub employee tasked with leaving a nice message for the 1 billionth repo. Seeing that counter tick towards that joyful moment, anticipation builds.
What would it be? The next Linux display manager? Something as impactful as Docker or Kubernetes? The early beginnings of a radical new OS?
Nope, it turns out to be shit. 💩

Not with the current political climate I’m afraid. Still hoping for a shift to the left, as our right wing parties just showed they are completely incompetent. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst though.
I’ll happily trade your razor blade slot for the crumbling linen-covered iron electrical wiring inside metal pipes in our 50’s house. Don’t worry, we are busy replacing it all. But if I’m suddenly permanently offline our house probably burned down. 😋
Fuck it, I don’t seem to have AD(H)D. That’s why I’ve spent the better part of the day recharging so I could pretend to be social in the evening while on vacation with the in-laws and a 2-year old niece. I can’t fucking filter her screams, the noise of having 7 adults around me and I’m so fucking glad of not having kids myself.
Onscreen instructions unclear, pressed Shift+6+X. Still stuck in Nano.
Yeah, that’s how it usually goes when I go to the GP. Can’t express myself, mind goes blank or gets tangled in what I want to say. For my ‘I think I might have ADHD’ talk I also wrote down everything on notes, condensed them to a checklist and just worked through that. Really helped in getting a coherent story across.
That’s rough, sorry to hear that. I only got diagnosed in my late 30’s, ever since high school I felt like something about me was off.
Daydreaming? “Well, you’ve got an IQ of 135, so you are just bored.”
Incapable of starting homework? “Completely normal, you are just bored, try harder.”
At some point I convinced myself I was just lazy, it was only when I hit a roadblock professionally I was finally able to convince a doctor that this could not go on any longer.
It sucks knowing something is wrong, but having to fight to get taken seriously. I hope you are able to find the help you need soon.
Made me (diagnosed with ADHD-I) chuckle, that could definitely be me. Usually one of these:
- Forget the appointment altogether.
- Remember appointment, be unable to do anything beforehand, find something to distract me of that impending appointment dread, forget the appointment that initially took up my entire attention span.
