Well, I think its different for different users, with different economy and different motivations.

Kagi has 70000 paying members, enough to be profitable without any ads or tracking. Since the results are literally Googles results but without ads, AI results or tracking, it’s worth paying for for some people who can.

Ive been a paying member since 2023 and I feel good about supporting alternatives to Google with some lunch money. :) Because of me and the other users, there is a quality search engine that makes us happy and makes a profit without ads.

But we are all different. When I was a teenager I wouldn’t have paid for this. Had no money and wanted my money for other things.

It doesn’t and when you discover that, try Kagi.

People here love things to be free and in doing so, they recommend worse search engines.

At some point capitalism will fail but it will take much longer than we think…

I used to work in tech and I think it’s very draining these days, with AI and the constant pressure to deliver more and more. Could be why people are “sick”, they just can’t work on that level all the time, even being young.

Unions are why we have 30 days vacation every year in Europe. Its the entire reason why we are not completely exploited like in the US.

Many people fought very hard to make that happen.

Yeah and the wars are created by America many times, because its huge profits for the military industrial complex and also serves as a way to increase the American presence in countries with resources like oil.

Boosting productivity is very bad for the stressed worker who gets a new performance baseline that is 10 times what it was before. We already see this happening.

Using the cloud is good at work but at home, it’s much more fun to have your own stuff running.
